Six years after a eunuch was shot inside the Tis Hazari court complex, a city court has sentenced the killer to death.
Neelam, the eunuch, came to depose in court on March 28, 2003, in the murder case of another eunuch Zareena.
As she was the sole eyewitness, she was given a personal security officer.
After recording her statement, when Neelam came out of court number 119, an armed Shree Gopal emerged from the crowd.
Within seconds, he had pumped bullets into Neelam at close range. He even shot at a Delhi Police official present near the courtroom.
“The accused after killing the deceased and injuring a policeman, did not throw his weapon,” said additional sessions judge Raj Kumar Chauhan.
Policemen near the court overpowered Gopal and snatched his weapon.
Gopal had been hired by the people who killled Zareena, to kill Neelam, as she was pursuing the murder case.
Interestingly, Zareena had been killed in a case of mistaken identity at her residence under Rajouri Garden police station. The killers had wanted to kill Neelam.
The court noted that it was a “rarest of the rare case”.
As Gopal had killed a person “in a gruesome, diabolic, premeditated and pre-planned manner just for the sake of money”, he was “ordered to be hanged by neck till he is dead”.
