An argument over which car is better led to the murder of a 27-year sales executive in northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar in the wee hours of Monday. According to police, the incident was reported to them around 1am by a passerby, who found the victim lying in a pool of blood on the roadside.
Aashish Kumar had been hit on the head and near the left eye with a blunt object. Police have registered a case of murder in connection with the incident at the Mukherjee Nagar police station.
A senior police officer said Kumar, a resident of Khajoori Khas in Delhi, had left his home around 10pm in his Hyundai Accent car to meet his friends in Maurice Nagar.
“Kumar met his friends and together they consumed liquor at a room in Maurice Nagar’s Christian Colony. Soon, Kumar and one of his friends started arguing about which car was better — Mahindra XUV 500 or Hyundai Verna,” said the officer.
“As the argument turned ugly,” the officer said, “they all left the room. While they were walking on the road, they started debating the topic again. One of them hit Kumar with a blunt object on his head and near his eyes. He collapsed on the road, and his friends fled the scene.”
Kumar was taken to Babu Jag Jivan Ram Memorial hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Romil Baniya, additional DCP (northwest), said that they had identified the prime accused and a manhunt had been launched to nab him. “The number of persons involved in the brawl will be ascertained only after we interrogate the prime accused. We have picked up a few friends of the victim for questioning,” added Baniya.
