Government's decision to put on hold FDI in retail is not a setback for it and a final call will be taken after a consensus is evolved, Minister of state for parliamentay affairs Rajiv Shukla said on Wednesday.
"...We had to break the (Parliament) logjam. Several people had raised reservations. There will be a process of consultation. They will be taken on board and after evolving a consensus, a decision will be taken. There is no harm in it," Shukla told reporters outside Parliament House.
Noting that chief ministers had to be taken on board on the issue, he said, "...The chief ministers (have) to decide whether they want to implement it in their states."
Replying to questions, he said that "it is not a face loss" for the government. "Definitely, the party is fully backing the Prime Minister."
To end the logjam in Parliament, the government put the decision on FDI in retail on the backburner till a consensus is evolved, a proposal the entire opposition and the dissenting allies accepted without reservation.
