In an act of courage and presence of mind, a 16-year-old girl managed to escape her abductors who had forcibly picked her up when she was on her way to tuitions near her home in east Delhi on Wednesday afternoon.
The class 11 student was kidnapped by four men just a kilometre away from her house at Mayur Vihar phase 3 in east Delhi around 4:30 pm while she managed to give her kidnappers the slip at the Kapashera border in south-west Delhi, she told the police.
“The men forced me into a black SUV and then sedated me,” the girl said.
She said she was woken by some loud noise in the car around 8 pm. She said it sounded as if there was some dispute between the kidnappers.
“They had held me by my arm. But during the conversation, one of the kidnappers lost his grip and I ran out of the car,” she said.
Thinking quickly, the victim ran into a farmhouse and contacted the guards who called the police.
“The guards came to her rescue and contacted a passing PCR van,” said a police official.
The police were trying to recreate the sequence of events from the time the girl was kidnapped till she managed to escape.
According to police officials, initial investigation suggested no signs of physical abuse, though they were looking for other motives, including family feud.
“The girl was taken to Safdarjung hospital for medical examination. The reports did not suggest any sign of molestation,” said a police official.
“She is in a state of shock and will soon be sent for counseling,” he added.
A case has been registered under IPC section 363 (kidnapping), 354 (outraging the modesty of women) and other relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act at the New Ashok Vihar police station.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (east) Ajay Kumar could not be contacted for comments.
