A 62-year old woman was killed on Monday when she was attacked 27 times with a meat cleaver at her west Delhi home where she was alone with her five-year-old grandson, the police said.
They suspect Sulochna Bansal was murdered by a domestic help who was sacked last week after a heated argument with her. The Bansals, who live in Punjabi Bagh, had hired him through a placement agency.
“She had stab wounds all over the body, but most of the wounds were around the neck,” a police official said on condition of anonymity.
Sulochna’s body was found near the main door of the ground-floor house by her daughter-in-law Puja at around 11.30am. Puja had returned home from a hospital where her daughter is being treated. She found the doors bolted from inside. “When several knocks went unanswered, Puja asked a neighbour for help who entered the house through the back door, which was open,” the officer said.
The main door was not broken and there were no other signs of a forced entry, indicating that the assailant was known to her. The assailant locked the woman’s grandson in a room and ransacked the house. The family, however, has not reported anything missing.
“The wires of the CCTV camera installed in the house were tampered with and the hard disk missing,” the officer said.
The Bansals deal in motor oil and lubricants and have a showroom nearby. Sulochna’s husband Vijay was at his office when she was killed.
