Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday said that said the national capital was a metropolitan city and it "belongs to everyone" as people from different parts of the country come and stay here.
Her comments after her Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar remarked that the city will come to a halt if Biharis stop working.
"Delhi is a metropolitan city. Here people from Jammu and Kashmir to Kerala to Tamil Nadu to Bihar to Uttar Pradesh to Haryana live here. The city belongs to everyone. I don't know why such statements are being made when people are not going (out of the city)," she told reporters.
She was responding to a question on Kumar's statement at a function in New Delhi on Sunday that Delhi would come to an halt if Biharis stop working for a day.
Asked whether Kumar's statement was aimed at consolidating the vote bank of JD(U) ahead of the MCD elections, she refused to comment.
On Delhi government slapping two show-cause notices on an NGO run by Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta's wife, Dikshit initially said she was unaware of the development.
When pointed out that the industry department has issued the notices, she said the department concerned will follow up on it.
The notices were served to NGO, Sampurna, for failing to provide the annual list of governing body members since its inception in 2000, which the government says was a violation of provisions of the Society Registration Act.
