A police officer, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was suspended after a 25-year-old woman alleged that he had misbehaved with her at an east Delhi market on Friday evening, the police said.
The incident was reported from the Pandav Nagar area around 10.20pm. The victim alleged that she was strolling in the local market with her husband when Constable Mukesh Kumar Hooda intercepted them.
“According to the victim, who is a resident of southeast Delhi’s Sangam Vihar, she was in the area after having attended a birthday party at a relative’s house with her husband in Mandawali,” said an officer.
The victim told the police that she and her husband had left her parents’ house around 10 pm on his two-wheeler. The couple had halted at a Mother Dairy outlet for ice-cream. As they ate their ice-cream, the victim told the police, Hooda, who is posted at the Pandav Nagar police station and was allegedly reeking of alcohol, approached her husband and rudely asked him to move his bike which was parked on the road.
“The victim claims that her husband was ready to comply but requested that he be given a few minutes to do so at which he got furious and started hurling abuses at him,” the officer said.
When she tried to reason with him, the victim told police, Hooda started abusing her too. The victim claimed that Hooda was then joined by his colleagues who also misbehaved with her.
