Delhi has been shining ever since a fresh spate of development was added to the already existing process of transforming it into a world class city. Be it improving upon infrastructure or the civic amenities, Delhi has seen rapid progress in a 360 degree overall developmental module. The Commonwealth Games only add to the list of world class events that Delhi has already been host to; namely the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982.

The Delhi Government has left no stone unturned in making sure that the games become a focal point for the whole world. A lot of money has been spent to get only the best for the Games. The responsibility of being a sports capital, along with being a national capital, now rests upon the shoulders of the city. Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister, New Delhi says, " It is a great honour to host a prestigious event like Commonwealth Games. The infrastructure being catered at the Commonwealth Games 2010 is surely being done to augment the appearance of Delhi and to ensure comfortable execution of the events. Another good aspect of the Games is that projects that were expected to take 10 years to complete now have a much stricter deadline that is, before the Commonwealth Games begin".

One only has to look around to see the amount of development that has been initiated and completed with great innovation and technology. The development that has come in terms of roads, new flyovers, bridges, underpasses and other amenities are a clear indicator of the progress that the city has been so far.

Metro- The ride from the future

The metro has proved to be the biggest boon that the city has seen, probably since the DTC first came into being. Having set the highest standards in executing it swiftly, the DMRC had people holding a lot of expectations from them. With the commencement of the metro on each new line, the Delhiites haven't ever been a happier bunch. Looking at the growing needs, newer lines, detours and stations were added to the plan to facilitate the people of the city. The Delhi Metro now stands out as one of the prime infrastructural boons that stand out as one discusses the city.

Low Floor Buses

The cityscape has undergone a sea change in terms of looks after the introduction of the swank, state-of-the-art low floor buses. With extra space for more passengers and options for air conditioned buses, the delhiites have welcomed this new mode of transportation for everyday commuting. With the blue lines phased out for duration of the Commonwealth Games, these buses have become the lifeline for the everyday travellers.

Flying over and Zooming through!

With fresh roads and flyover constructions, travelling has never been easier for delhiites. With a spate of fresh flyovers, roads, underpasses and betterment of existing roads, delhiites couldn't have asked for more. While travel time has gone down for most people, thanks to these innovations, others have been benefitted by able to avoid congestions and traffic jams.

With sparkling new stadiums, the Commonwealth Games village, brand new street lights, the Commonwealth Games has made Delhi look one of the most beautiful ever. There are great options available for tourists and anyone gracing the capital durning the Commonwealth Games. Most hotels and a lot of other facilites have special offers, especially for the Commonwealth Games. A special bus service, namely the HoHo bus has been instituted to take the curious traveller or tourist around the city at very nominal rates. Turn the right way and you might be witness to some or the other spectacle associated with the games, to make you feel proud of your city. You only need to wait with bated breath, to see the joy among the people and the city, once the Common Wealth Games are here!
