Unidentified bike-borne assailants opened fire on a 46-year-old businessman and film producer at Desh Bandhu Gupta (DBG) Road area near Karol Bagh on Monday morning. The producer, Hardev Singh, who was in his Toyota Corolla car, was unhurt.
The producer suspects the hand of Reshma Shetty, manager of Bollywood actor Salman Khan, behind the attack, said police.
Hardev Singh owns a tyre showroom in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh and runs a production house in Mumbai. Sources in Delhi Police said Singh is father of Jasmeet Sethi, who had allegedly created a commotion outside Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai sometime back.
The police have registered a case of attempt to murder and arms act at the DBG Road police station against unknown attackers. Sources said Shetty has also filed two cases against Singh in Mumbai.
“This is a sham and a fraud. I do not know any Hardev Singh. His wife and daughter have made accusations against me and even threatened me in the past. I had lodged a police complaint against them on 29th August and Mumbai Police is on the lookout for them,” Reshma Shetty said.
Singh in his complaint told the police that he lives with his family in Rajouri Garden. Around 6.30 pm on Monday, Singh was going to his office in Karol Bagh in his car when he noticed some persons in a Santro car and on a motorcycle following him from New Rohtak Road.
“After following his car for some distance, a man on the motorcycle opened fire at Singh’s car. Singh claimed two bullets were lodged in his car after which he sped away and called the police control room (PCR). One of the bullets pierced through the rear window of the car and passed through the other window. Only one empty cartridge was recovered from the car,” said a senior police officer.
Alok Kumar, DCP (central district), said, “Singh has raised suspicions over the involvement of Salman Khan’s manager. We are in the process of verifying his allegations.”
According to a source, Singh had recently opened a production house in Mumbai registered in his wife and daughter’s name. Singh wanted to sign Salman Khan for his upcoming film but Shetty allegedly demanded money.
