At least 17 people were killed after a fire broke out at a firecracker factory in outer Delhi’s Bawana industrial area on Saturday evening.
At least half a dozen people are still trapped inside the building and rescue operations are on.
The exact cause of the fire was not immediately known. Officials, however, suspected that a short-circuit could have led to the blaze. The owner of the factory Manoj Jain has been arrested by Delhi Police.

8am: The owner of the factory Manoj Jain has been arrested by Delhi Police, reports ANI.
12.45am: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announces Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the dead and Rs 1 lakh to the injured.
11.55pm: Arvind Kejriwal will visit the site of the fire soon.
11.30pm: Union health minister JP Nadda on Saturday said that the AIIMS and the Safdarjung Hospital were ready to provide all assistance to the injured. The health ministry has also asked the hospitals to keep emergency services ready.

10.55pm: “Eight people have been brought to us in all— six of them had sustained 100% burn injuries and had died on the spot, and two others have been admitted and are being currently stabilized,” said a doctor in the Maharishi Valmiki hospital, requesting anonymity.

10:16pm: Delhi industries minister Satyendar Jain said the government has ordered an enquiry into the incident.
10:15pm: Delhi Police officials said people who were trapped inside the factory died of burn injuries and asphyxiation.
10:14pm: Chief fire officer Atul Garg said that the control room was informed about the blaze at 6:20 pm.
