A 26-year-old IT professional was crushed to death when a truck toppled over his car, dragged it for a distance and caused it to catch fire in south Delhi’s Vasant Gaon early on Wednesday morning.
The blaze engulfed the truck’s capsule which was loaded with cement, the Swift car and the man sandwiched between the vehicles, said the police.
Investigators are yet to ascertain whether Anish Jadav, a resident of Gurgaon, died due to the crash or the fire. His charred body was pulled out of the mangled vehicle after cutting out a portion of the car’s body in a joint operation by the Delhi Police and Delhi Fire Services. Jadav, a native of Pune, worked with Nikon.
Before toppling over Jadav’s car, the truck had rammed a Honda Amaze car, causing it to overturn and injuring its passengers — a young couple Akash and Sulekha.
A motorcycle was also damaged in the accident, injuring its rider.
A senior police officer said the accident occurred at around 230AM at the intersection point below the Rao Tula Ram (RTR) flyover when the loaded truck was heading towards Gurgaon from Munirka side.
As the truck reached near the intersection point, a Honda Amaze car that was coming on the opposite carriageway took a right turn on the road.
“Since the car had come in the middle of the road, the truck driver applied sudden brakes and hit the road divider. The front portion of the truck rammed into the car that turned turtle, while the driver’s cabin of the truck toppled over it. The rear loaded portion of the truck also turned turtle and landed on a Swift car, crushing both the car and its driver,” said the officer.
The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the accident spot. A case has been registered against him and efforts are on to nab him.
