A central Delhi trader was arrested on Sunday on a charge of killing his friend to avoid paying back a loan of Rs 100,000.

Spare motor parts dealer Yogesh was arrested from his Rajendra Nagar residence after the body of 32-year-old kitchenware trader Jeetendra was recovered from the former's house, police said.

Jeetendra, who had his shop on the GB Road in central Delhi, had given a loan of Rs 100,000 to Yogesh some time back. Yogesh kept deferring the payment on one pretext or the other, they said.

A resident of Ashok Vihar in northwest Delhi, Jeetendra on Saturday night visited Yogesh's residence after informing his family members that he was going to persuade him to return the money.

But Yogesh got enraged as Jeetendra approached him for his money and attacked him with a kitchen knife, injuring him fatally in the neck, police said.

Yogesh later hid the body in the bathroom of his house and visited the victim's residence enquiring about his whereabouts in a bid to mislead his family.

But at Jeetendra's residence, her wife told Yogesh that he had gone to meet him. She called up her husband on his mobile phone and to her bewilderment found his phone ringing outside her house in Yogesh's vehicle.

This made Jeetendra's wife suspicious and she reported the matter to police. Following interrogation by police, Jeetendra confessed to his crime and was arrested.
