Delhiites made the most of a sunny Saturday with the maximum temperature remaining at a relatively comfortable 21.3 degrees Celsius.
However, Sunday is likely to be a little colder than Saturday, Met officials said.
“It was sunny and warm in the morning when I started for work. Elders tell us that mercury generally begins to dip
after Lohari. But what was not expected was that there were chilly winds after 2pm,” said Ankur Raijada, who works in a private company in Connaught Place.
Saturday recorded a maximum temperature of 21.3 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year as against a minimum temperature of 10 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal. There was a shallow fog in the morning.
“This was four notches above yesterday’s (Friday) minimum temperature of 6.1 degrees Celsius,” the weatherman said.
“There would be mist/shallow fog in the morning and mainly clear sky during the day. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 18.0 degrees Celsius and 7.0 degrees Celsius respectively.” Explaining the reason for chilly winds, an India Meteorological Department official said, “There is rainfall coupled with hailstorm and intensified cold wave conditions in the Himalayas, specially in Jammu Kashmir, Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh.
While passing over (from west to east) the Delhi region, the western disturbances clear the sky of moisture and hence there is no fog and for the same reason, Delhi is experiencing chilly winds.
The forecast for Monday shows a sunny day with maximum and minimum temperatures at 17.0 degrees Celsius and 7.0 degrees Celsius respectively, while that for Tuesday shows maximum and minimum temperatures at 18 degrees Celsius and 7.0 degrees Celsius.
