The 30-year-old BPO employee who was abducted near her home in south Delhi and gangraped by five men will finally stand to get justice. The Delhi Police is going to file a chargesheet in the case in two days against the five accused men.
The police are banking mainly on the test identification parade (TIP) results, CCTV footage, DNA reports and mobile phone details of the accused to build a case against them. Police have also got the forensic results that had been delayed after a forensic expert went on leave.
On November 24 last year, the victim, who was returning home after work with her friend, was pulled by the five accused into a pick-up van and then gangraped. She was then dumped in Mongolpuri industrial area from where she herself called the police and was rescued later.
The five accused — Shamshad alias Khutkan, Usman alias Kale, Shahid alias Choti Billi, Kamruddin alias Mobile and Iqbal alias Bada Billi, all friends — belonged to the same village of Mewat region in Haryana.
A posse of 380 policemen was sent to Dhaujj village in Mewat region, 50 kilometres from Delhi, to arrest the accused. Two were caught, while two others managed to give the police a slip. They were later arrested while the fifth one had surrendered before a court in Ballabgarh in Haryana.
“The most important evidence we have in the case is that the victim identified them during TIP even though they had shaved their head to confuse her. The DNA samples lifted from the scene of crime and CCTV footage procured from five locations where the vehicle passed through are also key evidences,” said a senior police officer.
The country-made pistol, used to threaten the victim, was recovered from Usman’s house at Mirpur village near Faridabad a few days later.
