The Delhi Police are investigating whether someone was stalking Soumya Vishwanathan, the 25-year-old TV journalist who was shot dead in her car on her way home from office early on Tuesday.
The police have asked for the CCTV footage taken at the parking lot of Soumya’s Jhandewalan office to examine whether someone was following her, a senior police officer said. She was working as a producer with Headlines Today channel. Scribes killed in recent years.
“The CCTV footage would be able to throw light whether someone was following her from her office. The Nelson Mandela stretch where she died is quite desolated. The killer might have taken advantage of this,” said a senior police officer.
Police have also sent hair strands found on the rear seat of Soumya’s car for DNA sampling.
“The police are now not even sure whether the hair strands belonged to Vishwanthan,” added the officer.
In another major development, the police said only one bullet was fired, that hit the journalist’s head.
“The mark found on the front number plate of the car was not that of a bullet. The fact was established by forensic examination of the car,” said DCP (south) HGS Dhaliwal.
The policemen who were present at the picket that is about 300 metres away from the crime spot are also being questioned.
“Vishwanathan crossed the police picket near Vasant Vihar Priya complex. We are trying to know from the policemen present there whether they noticed the car or found anything unusual,” said Dhaliwal.
