A 37-year-old paediatrician and his 70-year-old father, a retired government school teacher, were injured in a case of road rage on Thursday evening.
A group of men allegedly thrashed them because they did not give them right of way in a crowded road, in east Delhi’s Krishna Nagar.
The incident happened at around 5.45 pm at Lal Quarter in Krishna Nagar, when the paediatrician was heading towards his clinic in Shahdara with his father AL Aggarwal and compounder Vimal Kumar, in his car.
“There was a huge traffic jam on the road near Biglow’s Public School. We were stuck in the jam and could not move even a step ahead. Suddenly, two men riding a Honda scooty started honking from behind. They wanted passage on the road but we were helpless. Soon, they started banging on my car,” the doctor said.
An argument broke out between them as they rolled down his car’s window and asked them to wait. The two became violent and forcibly pulled him out of his car. They rained punches on him. Seeing his son in trouble, the elderly man stepped out of the car and intervened.
The doctor’s right eardrum was damaged due to repeated punching and slapping.
His father too received injuries. The attackers also threw stones at the car, because of which its rear windscreen was damaged.
This was the third road rage case reported in Delhi in the last three days. On Tuesday night, a senior bureaucrat from Manipur and his family members were verbally abused and assaulted by a man after their cars had a minor collision near south Delhi’s Moti Bagh flyover. The attacker also molested the bureaucrat’s wife and daughter.
On Wednesday night, another bureaucrat was attacked and his wife molested in south Delhi’s Hauz Khas area by four men over an accident. The four were arrested and later released on bail.
