The resolution placed by BJP councillor Manoj Tyagi in the Standing Committee said the board, which was constituted by the Delhi government to focus on development of the trans-Yamuna region, has failed to serve its purpose in providing facilities to citizens.

"Since the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been trifurcated, it is the duty of the EDMC to look after the development of the trans-Yamuna region. Therefore, there is no logic behind continuing with the board that has not done any developmental work," said Tyagi.

Opposition Congress, however, opposed the move and said that instead of demanding dissolution of the board, the corporation should demand representation in the Trans Yamuna Development Board.

Leader of Opposition in EDMC Varyam Kaur said instead of playing politics, the corporation should demand the appointment of the chairman of the standing committee as a member of the board so that the two organizations can work in tandem.

According to EDMC commissioner S S Yadav, the corporation receives R70 crore annually from the Trans-Yamuna Area Development Board for development work. "Out of the total budget, funds are distributed between PWD, DJB and other agencies along with the corporation," said Yadav.
