At a time when the Delhi government is opening the gates for private corporate entities to run public bus services in the Capital, the state-controlled Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) wants to do a reality check on its operations on the ground and improve its efficiency.

The DTC has deployed over 200 senior officers, including chief general managers, deputy chief general managers and senior managers for the task.

Besides, regional managers, depot managers, deputy managers and other traffic supervisory staff will also be on the task to cover 46 points where they will take stock of their operations.

The officers will inspect the operation of the buses under several classifications — each bus’s schedule time, behaviour of its crew, issuance of tickets to all passengers.

“The officer concerned will also inspect the display of electronic boards, presentability of bus from inside and outside, working of time-keepers and the details of the staff those are performing duty without uniform,” said a senior DTC official on the condition of anonymity.

Under this inspection drive, the checking staff will keep a watch on ticket-less travellers as well. “This exercise is initiated in order to make the DTC bus service more reliable, punctual and commuter-friendly," he said. “The reports from these officials will form the basis of our future course of action.”
