For students of B.Sc courses at the Delhi University, the paper on Environmental Science is nothing short of being jinxed. last year, there were a lot of confusions and last-minute tensions and the same has been the case this year too.
According to the DU datesheet for this semester, students were supposed to sit for the exams on Monday. But the fact is most have not been taught the subject in a majority of colleges.
“We were told by our teachers that we will sit for the exam in the next semester but the datesheet says otherwise. There is a lot of confusion and many students still don’t know where they stand. Our college told us categorically that we will not take this exam,” said a second year Physics (honours) student from Miranda House.
Last year too, students were not able to take the exam due to confusion between exam branch and colleges. Students were supposed to give the exam online but that too did not work out. “We were just given the syllabus some time back and I am mugging whatever I can,” said a student at a North Campus college.
“There is no clear-cut written notice to list which colleges will have this exam. Before the semester system was implemented, this course was run online for B. Sc. Programme students. In semester system, all science students need to take this as qualifying paper. This means that students will get the degree only when this paper is cleared. No classes have been held for this paper and now this exam will be a written one instead of being online,” said Abha Dev Habib, who teaches at Miranda House.
Officials at DU examination branch could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
