Two motorcycle-borne persons employed with an IT company were mowed down on south Delhi’s AIIMS flyover on Tuesday night in what appears to be a hit-and-run case, police said.
According to the police, Ashok, 26 and Manoj, 40, who were on their way from South Extension to Bhikaji Cama Place, were seen lying in a pool of blood by a DTC bus driver around 11:40pm.
“A truck, which had run out of fuel, was parked on one side of the flyover. The duo, who seem to have been out on a joyride, suddenly braked and were trying to overtake the stationary vehicle when a speeding vehicle approaching from behind ran them over,” said a senior police officer.
The accident victims were pronounced dead after being taken to an adjacent trauma centre. The police used the battered two-wheeler’s registration number to track down its ownership to an IT company in Nehru Place.
“Their employers told us that the victims were staying at Ambedkar Slum Colony in RK Puram. Neither had helmets or driving licenses,” the officer added.
A case of causing death by rash and negligent driving has been registered and the police are trying to find the errant vehicle and its driver.
