Seven women, hailing from eastern Europe and southeast Asia, and a man were arrested for their alleged role in operating a sex racket from a flat in south Delhi’s posh South Extension area, police said on Tuesday.
Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime) said they cracked the racket after receiving a tip-off that a call girl racket, involving foreign nationals, was being operated from South Extension Part-I.
“On Monday, a raid was conducted after a decoy customer struck a deal with them. The women, including a pimp, hail from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Nepal,” Chand said.
Police said they moved in on the gang after a decoy customer struck a deal with the alleged pimp — identified as Deepak Verma, 25 — hailing from Pithoragarh in Uttaranchal.
“He took the decoy inside the house, where the woman pimp was present, along with the girls. The woman pimp told that the girls would be available on payment of Rs 20,000-25,000,” Chand added.
According to the police, out of the seven girls apprehended, one is from Kazakhstan, four — including the lady pimp — from Uzbekistan and two from Nepal. Verma told police that he was working for one Ashish — the kingpin of the prostitution racket — for a monthly salary of Rs 10,000. “As soon as a client would contact Ashish, he would depute Verma for further liaison. He also runs a website by the name of ‘Delhi Top Escorts’. Initial investigation has revealed the apprehended lady pimp had visited India several times and operated in several areas of south Delhi earlier,” Chand said.
