The body of a 53-year-old electrical engineer was found in mysterious circumstances in a park in northeast Delhi’s Dilshad Garden on Monday morning.
The victim has been identified as the brother of Dr. DK Sharma, medical superintendent (MS) of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), said the police.
Bharat Bhushan Sharma, a resident of Dilshad Garden, was found dead in a park around 6.30 am.
Sharma’s body was discovered by a morning walker who called the police. There were injury marks on his face and a tooth was broken.
Though a case of murder has been registered, the police are probing the case from the possibility of accidental death. Investigators suspect that Sharma might have accidentally fallen on the concrete walking track under the influence of alcohol.
Sources said traces of alcohol were found in Sharma’s body which indicated that he was inebriated when the incident occurred.
“We have registered a case of murder at the Seemapuri police station and are trying to ascertain the exact cause of his death. Prima-facie it appears to be a case of accidental death but we are probing it from different angles,” a senior police officer said.
During investigation, the officer said, it was learnt that Sharma was living with his parents —Madam Lal Sharma and Shakuntala — at his Dilshad Garden residence ever since his wife and their 13-year-old son shifted to a new house in south Delhi’s RK Puram.
The victim’s parents told the police that Sharma had left home at 7 pm on Sunday and did not return home.
Sharma, a police officer said, was currently unemployed but had worked in different companies in Haryana. “We are questioning people who were with Sharma on Sunday night,” said the officer.
