He neither possesses an MBBS degree nor had any medical qualification or training, yet Harish Goswami has been a doctor for the past five years.
Goswami used a white lab coat and a stethoscope, hung around his neck like a professional doctor, to dupe several people, including doctors, and patients of money.
Police said Goswami would walk into any government hospital and befriend doctors and patients. He would then ask for loan from doctors and vanish. He also duped patients by telling them to get their medical tests done at particular labs, from where he used to take a cut.
Goswami, 40, is a native of Almora in Uttarakhand. He was arrested following investigations into a complaint lodged by Surender Kumar, a senior orthopaedician at RML hospital.
Goswami allegedly duped Kumar of Rs 20,000, which he had borrowed for “treatment of ailing his grandmother”.
"We recovered stamps in the name of Dr. Harish Goswami, senior Surgeon, Medicine at RML and AIIMS. He used the same name to open bank accounts and get an election ID card,” said Additional CP (New Delhi) KC Dwivedi.
