Saudi Arabia has confirmed to the CBI that Indian terror suspect, Fasih Mehmood, an engineer who allegedly went missing there from his Jubail residence is in its custody.
Mehmood will soon be handed over to India, a CBI source said.
“The Saudi Arabian authorities have finally confirmed to the CBI that Fasih Mehmood is in their custody. The CBI has begun the process to get him back to India soon,” said the source. Acting on a CBI's request, the Interpol had on May 31 issued its Red Corner Notice against Mehmood.
Mehmood is suspected of having links with the Indian Mujahideen and playing a role in two terror attacks allegedly executed by it — blast near Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore in April 2010 and blast near Delhi’s Jama Masjid in September the same year. The Saudi authorities had on May 13 picked up Mehmood on the basis of specific information provided to them allegedly by Indian intelligence agencies.
Hailing from Bihar’s Darbhanga district, Mehmood was working in Saudi Arabia for the past five years. According to his family, the local police allegedly picked him up for questioning in May from Jubail.
Earlier, Mehmood's wife has rejected all charges including those pertaining to terror being levelled against him and approached the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the government to trace his location after he went missing.
