Father of Shobhit Modi, the 20-year-old IT engineering student who was murdered in Vasant Kunj area of south Delhi on May 5 night, has written to the Delhi Police commissioner, BK Gupta, asking him to speed up the probe into the case.
A family source, requesting anonymity, said that Suraj Modi had been quite critical about the role of the police since no clue had still been found even 21 days after the murder.
Shobhit was found with multiple stab wounds by a security guard of the Vasant Kunj colony while on his way home from a nearby mall where he had gone to meet friends. He was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead.
A frustrated Modi commented on the shoddy job that the police had done so far. His letter also informed the commissioner that the local police did not record vital information about Shobhit’s friends in the first information report.
Besides, Modi asked the police to take greater care of Shobhit's girlfriend, who had reported tried to commit suicide some days ago, “as we believe that she holds the key to solving the case”.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police sources claimed to have picked up a former convict and a local goon, Deepak Malik, for questioning in the case.
A senior police officer said that Malik was understood to have just been released from prison in a robbery case. “He is a resident of the Kusum Pahadi area in 'D' block of Vasant Kunj and has been missing since the day of Shobhit's murder.”
