A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her uncle at her home in northeast Delhi’s Dilshad Garden on Thursday, the eve of the fourth anniversary of the December 16 gang rape case. The crime came to light after the girl’s family brought her to Kalawati Hospital in central Delhi with injuries.
A hospital staff called the Mandir Marg police and a complaint was filed that was later transferred to the northeast district police. “A case under protection of children from sexual offences act (POCSO) and other relevant sections of the IPC was registered at the Dilshad Garden police station. The accused was arrested on Friday,” said AK Singla, deputy commissioner of police (northeast).
A senior police officer said that the girl lives with her family members in Dilshad Garden. The girl’s uncle, the alleged accused in the case, too lives in the same locality with his family.
On Thursday afternoon, the girl told her mother that she had severe pain in her private parts. The mother then asked her if something wrong had happened to her. The girl first tried to skirt the issue but later broke down and narrated her ordeal before her mother and named her uncle as the perpetrator.
“The mother was shocked because the accused had tried to violate her in the past as well,” said the officer.
The girl was then taken to a nearby clinic where doctors confirmed rape and referred her to a government hospital.
The girl was then taken to Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital near Connaught Place, whose staff then called the police control room.
The girl was admitted to the hospital for medical attention and a complaint was filed with the Mandir Marg police. The condition of the girl was said to be out of danger.
