Wife of former Union Minister Karan Singh, Yasho Rajya Lakshmi, on MOnday died in New Delhi after brief illness, family sources said. She was 71.
Wife of former Union Minister Karan Singh, Yasho Rajya Lakshmi, on MOnday died in New Delhi after brief illness, family sources said. She was 71.
Grand-daughter of Maharaja Mohan Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana, the last Rana Prime Minister of Nepal from the Rana dynasty of that country, she was married to Karan Singh in 1950.
Rajya Lakshmi was an active social worker and known for her work for mentally challenged children under the aegis of All India Women's Conference which was founded by her and Delhi Society for the Welfare of Mentally Retarded Children.
An active member of the FICCI Ladies Organisation, she had also set up a centre for such kids in Okhla in New Delhi.
The centre caters to over 300 mentally retarded children and includes a sheltered workshop, a vocational training centre, a diagnostic clinic and several other rehabilitation facilities.
