In the past three days, four persons have committed suicide in separate incidents in the city.

In first incident, a 21-year-old woman hanged herself from the ceiling fan of her Bharat Nagar house in Northwest Delhi on Tuesday night. The victim’s family has alleged that her husband used to harass her for dowry.

“Shivani was found hanging with the ceiling fan at her house. Her husband works with a private company and we are questioning him,” a senior police officer said.

Shivani’s parents have informed the police that her husband was harassing her ever since she got married to him three years ago. The couple has a one-and-a-half-year old daughter.

In second such incident, a 33-year-old man committed suicide at his residence in Kirti Nagar. The police said that the victim, identified as Gaurav, was not satisfied with his job. Gaurav, a resident of Ramesh Nagar, hanged himself on Thursday morning.

His wife Pooja, who had gone to meet one of her relatives on Wednesday night, returned home on Thursday morning and found Gaurav hanging. Pooja told the police that Gaurav was depressed over his low income. He was running a video photography shop. No suicide note was found with the body.

On Thursday, a 29-year-old driver, Arjun Singh, was found hanging at his Paschim Puri house. Singh used to operate private cabs and is survived by four children, two of them being from his first wife who had died a few years ago.

The police have recovered a suicide note in which he has not blamed anyone and has claimed to be depressed over his marriage life.

In fourth such incident, a 26-year-old woman hanged herself at her residence in Seelampur area of northeast Delhi on Wednesday night. The woman, identified as Najma, was married to Hasan in 2009. Najma’s parents have alleged that Hasan used to harass her for dowry.

In another incident, a married woman attempted suicide in Sangam Vihar area. The woman, Anju, was found hanging from the ceiling fan at her rented accommodation in Sangam Vihar.

The police said that the woman, who got married three years ago, was living separately from her husband.
