French company Thales has been awarded contract to implement ticketing system for Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon, a new metro transit system in the satellite city, connected to Delhi Metro.
Thales will develop a central back office system to deliver the complete automatic fare collection system for the Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon, and will manufacture and install 72 automatic gates and associated IT systems in all stations, the company said in a release.
The Thales system will provide seamless journeys for passengers and quick, secure revenue collection, besides distribution for operators.
Entries and exits to metro stations will be controlled by gates operated by contactless smart cards, they said. With a length of 6.1km, including 6 stations, the planned route for the Rapid Metro Rail will connect to the Delhi Metro at Sikanderpur, bringing Gurgaon closer to the Capital.
With a common ticketing system for both services, the Thales solution streamlines operational efficiency, Thales said.
The project is scheduled to be completed by January 2013.
“The Gurgaon project is an additional proof point of Thales’s unmatched expertise in the delivery of transportation systems. Our company is fully committed to supporting India's transportation infrastructure projects with the state-of-the-art technology,” said Thales' India head Eric Lenseigne.
