The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has deprived Delhiites of convenient facilities because of faulty planning.
Although the MCD claims that it will take action against companies that built information kiosks and punish firms that failed to maintain waterless urinals, residents feel too little is being done and too late.
The civic agency will now ask the private firm that had installed information kiosks to remove them. MCD officials said the kiosks were installed at certain areas “according to the whims of councillors”. The officials claim neither they nor residents were consulted.
For instance, the luxury toilet cum coffee complexes project has been scrapped and the MCD will have to foot the bill.
"The MCD was interested in its own benefit, so it let the kiosks and urinals come up at wrong areas. We have filed a PIL in the HC, seeking removal of the urinals from the entry to Jungpura A," said Monu Chaddha, Jungpura RWA president.
The waterless urinals built by the civic agency have been vandalised and residents can't use them due to lack of maintenance. "One information kiosk was installed at our area but it has never been functional. And now they are going to remove it. It is sheer waste of money and energy,” said VK Gauba, resident of Greater Kailash 2.
MCD, however, claimed that private firms have been using these projects to mint money through advertisements, which is why MCD is shutting down the projects.
"The waterless urinals were being used as billboards. The companies are only interested in earning through advertisements. They are not bothered about maintenance," said Yogender Chandolia, chairman of MCD's standing committee.
