Mounting unprecedented security, Delhi Police on Saturday expressed confidence of a trouble-free Commonwealth Games and asserted that security norms will be applicable to everyone without any discrimination.
With "no stone left unturned" to secure Delhi, thousands of armed personnel have been deployed across 41 Games related infrastructure, including 12 competition venues, while Indian Air Force will provide air cover to thwart any terror attack like the 9/11 strikes in the US.
"This is the security arrangement which has been laid down after considerable thought, re-thought, examination and re-examination looking for loopholes. It is a multi-layered, multi-dimensional arrangement," Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal said.
Noting that it was a "moment of great challenge" to ensure security for the event, Dadwal told a press conference, "we have a higher security matrix for the Games compared to other events held in the city".
He said there were no specific inputs about any terrorist attack on the Games but the police were keeping a strict vigil over the city.
Dadwal said guidelines have been issued on security and the restrictions mentioned in the plan will be strictly followed.
"It is applied to each and every visitor and is applicable to every visitor. No relaxation or no exception will be made," Dadwal said citing the example of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram undergoing security checks at venues.
He said 28,387 Delhi Police personnel have been deployed at Games venues besides 195 companies (around 20,000 men) of paramilitary personnel.
"Besides this, we have the SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactic) team in three 'Light Armoured Troops Carrier' (LATC) and NSG commandos," the city police chief said.
Delhi Police being the nodal agency for Games security was providing security to 41 Games related infrastructure which includes 12 competition venues, 11 training venues, six non-competition venues, Games Village and airport among others.
"It is a huge task. We have cancelled the leaves of all our personnel for a period of one month from September 15. All our men are on 24X7 job. Some of them are even sleeping in police stations and then do their duty," he said.
Dadwal said the city police had conducted trials on Games exclusive lanes to know the impact on traffic during the Games.
"It had given us a first-hand experience about the traffic situation. We have not asked people to stay at home during the Games. We have only asked them to prepare their programmes in advance," he said.
