If you want more of the Commonwealth Games (CWG), then CMYK Bookstore at Mehar Chand Market in Lodhi Colony is the best place to buy memorabilia related to the ongoing sporting event.
The exhibition-cum-sale, an initiative by Roli Books, has articles such as toy cars, envelopes, stamps, coins, ties and badges from the first-ever Commonwealth Games in 1930 to the last one at Melbourne in 2006. The Melbourne CWG dominates the exhibition with most of the items related to it.
“The idea was conceived by Roli Books Director Kiran Kapoor, who collected these items over a long period of time. She collected these memorabilia from different places in London, said Sarita Prasad, manager-communications, CMYK Bookstore.
The various items on display are in the range of R200-3,500. The nine badges having inscription of the countdown to the Melbourne CWG and the various stamps have a price tag of R200 each.
On being asked why there are no items related to the CWG 2010, Sarita said, “We are trying to contact the CWG office in order to collect the CWG 2010 items as well.”
The impressive first-day envelopes at the store exhibit cultural aspects and sporting activities of the participating nations. For instance, the envelope of the Melbourne 2006 CWG shows Christine Ohuruogu, gold medallist for women’s 400-metre championship at the Games. The envelopes also depict profiles of the Games held at previous venues. Most of the items at the exhibition are affordable.
