After Delhi Airport, Delhi Metro and power distcoms, Delhi Public School (DPS) could become the capital’s next institution to get security cover of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
CISF, which mainly provides security to public sector undertakings, has witnessed a huge demand for its services from the private sector after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
Home minister P. Chidambaram told Parliament that the selection of units to be extended security would take time.
“We have a number of requests. But, I have told... them to wait,” he told Rajya Sabha before piloting the Bill to empower the CISF Act to provide security to private and joint ventures on Thursday. Public and private sectors would have to pay the same charges.
Apart from DPS branches in R.K. Puram, Vasant Vihar and East of Kailash, the Sir Gangaram Hospital and HDFC’s Janakpuri branch have requested the CISF to provide it security.
“We have written to the CISF asking them what kind of security arrangements they can provide,” said Shyama Chona, principal of DPS, R.K. Puram.
“We are going to deal the security of the private sector in a big way,” CISF’s additional director general (headquarters) Manjari Jaruhar said at a media briefing on Thursday.
