With an eye on projected 2.5 per cent annual growth in the job sector, the government is in the process of giving final touches to a national policy to accelerate employment growth.
The draft of the proposed National Employment Policy is likely to be placed before the Cabinet soon for its approval. In a statement, the Labour and Employment Ministry said the draft note has already been prepared. It was circulated among various ministries and departments and placed on the Ministry's website eliciting comments from different stakeholders.
While the draft policy eyes a 2.5 per cent growth per annum in the employment sector, it also favours an urban job guarantee scheme on the lines of NREGA. In addition to that, it also aims at improving the quality of jobs in terms of productivity, average earnings and protection of workers especially in the unorganised sector, the ministry said.
As part of its major short-term strategies and targets, the draft national policy has emphasised on inclusion of youth, women and vulnerable groups with their specific needs of training and skill development.
The policy has also underlined the need for increasing the share of organised sector employment in total employment of the country, particularly in the manufacturing and service sectors.
