A senior officer of Bihar Bhawan and another professor of the Jamia Millia Islamia University acted as mediators to help Mohammed Ghazi Shahnawaz — accused of torturing his 10-year-old domestic help — escape the police.
As the police were trying to trace Shahnawaz and his family, the child’s father was in constant touch with a senior officer of Bihar Bhawan and a professor of the University, who had asked him to take away the child from the shelter home to their native village in Bihar.
“Taking the child back to the native village would have helped Shahnawaz to escape as he has not been identified by the police yet,” a senior police officer said.
Since the child was unable to reveal details of his employer, a lot was depending on his father, who misled the police by saying that he had no information about the professor employer.
“We wasted two months but after finding his behaviour suspicious, we scanned his call details. It was found that he is in touch with a Jamia professor. He was later identified as Shahnawaz, but by the time we reached his home, he had absconded with his family,” the officer said.
“He now wants to go back to his home but his presence is required when the recovery of wages and compensation matter will be decided by the CWC.
Child’s father has denied any link with the the two but the CWC didn’t find it convincing.
