Not willing to rely on MCD’s sanitation staff this time, Delhi government has decided to clean the storm drains on its own.
The Public Works Department (PWD), which has already taken over 645.3 kilometres of MCD roads measuring 60 feet and above, has now started the process of filling up potholes.
A tender for re-carpeting of these roads has been called and construction work will start after the monsoon.
The agency has also decided to start desilting work on drains under its own jurisdiction and the ones being taken over by MCD on its own. So far, the MCD had been carrying out desilting work on drains under PWD too.
“Now that we have taken over roads that are above 60 feet, we will ensure that the drains on those roads are cleaned on time. A number of times, the MCD has not cleaned PWD drains claiming that they do not come under their jurisdiction,” said a senior Delhi government official.
Roads where PWD will do the patchwork include those in front of Savitiri Cinema, Press Enclave Road to MB Road, Sheikh Sarai phase I, Panchsheel Enclave road, Masjid Moth, M block GK II, several roads in Andrews Ganj, August Kranti Marg, and roads in Lajpat Nagar.
