Karnataka CM DV Sadanand Gowda and Nitin Gadkari meeting is underway, after which the decision regarding the chief minister's post would be made public. Gowda is expected to step down paving the way for Jagadish Shettar.
"The entire political situation of Karnataka was discussed. As Gadkari is coming to Delhi late at night, Gowda will meet him tomorrow morning. Whatever decision the party has taken will be announced on Sunday after Gowda's meeting with the party president," Jaitley told the media after the meeting on Saturday.
Party leaders said the decision on the change of guard has already been taken, and Gowda's meeting with Gadkari was just about observing the protocol. Stating that Gowda has agreed to the change, a party leader said, "He came happily and went back happily."
The BJP's core group met on Saturday to approve party president Nitin Gadkari's strategy of resolving the Karnataka crisis by replacing chief minister DV Sadanand Gowda with Jagadish Shettar.
BJP sources say that besides the change in guard, finality hasn't been given to other decisions. Some blueprints of a post-Gowda formula have, however, emerged.
One plan is to make Gowda, a Vokkaliga, party president in Karnataka and make backward Kuruba leader Eshwarappa (the present state president) the deputy chief minister.
Another plan is to let Eshwarappa remain party president and make Vokkaliga leader R Ashok the deputy chief minister, while according Gowda "honourable rehabilitation
The party brass is convinced that keeping former chief minister and Lingayat strongman BS Yeddyurappa in good humour is crucial for the next poll.
Though he cannot be reinstated due to graft charges, the party is open to replace his earlier choice Gowda - whom Yeddyurappa no longer likes - with his present choice, Shettar.
