NEW DELHI: Two people were murdered in two separate incidents reported from west Delhi’s Nihal Vihar on Monday, police said.

The first murder took place at Nilothi Mor near Nihal Vihar where a 28-year-old businessman was shot dead by two assailants in the evening.

The businessman, Rahul Aggarwal, supplied grocery items to shopkeepers in Nihal Vihar. He lived with his family in Shivram Park area in west Delhi. Aggarwal was married six months ago. Police suspect a dispute or business rivalry could be the motive behind Aggarwal’s murder.

A senior police officer said Aggarwal had gone to collect money from a grocery shop owner at Nilothi Mor. He was entering the shop when two unidentified men arrived on a motorcycle and shot him. The bullet hit Aggarwal near the chest and he collapsed as the attackers sped away.

“The shopkeeper informed the police. Aggarwal was rushed to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on admission,” said the officer.

In another case, a 23-year-old woman was murdered allegedly by her drunk husband. Police said the man was fighting with his wife over money for buying liquor. The husband, Pradeep, fled the house leaving his wife bleeding, said police.

Monika was mar ried to Pradeep, a rickshaw puller, two years ago. The couple lived at a rented room in Nihal Vihar. Their neighbours told police that the couple often fought over Pradeep’s drinking habit.

On Monday night, a police officer said, Pradeep returned home in an inebriated condition and fought with Monika. “Pradeep was demanding money from Monika to buy more liquor. When she refused he held her head and smashed it on the wall. Monika collapsed and Pradeep ran away,” said the officer.

Monika’s neighbours informed police about the incident. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. “A case of murder has been registered and efforts are on to nab Pradeep,” the officer added.
