Gurgaon police have suspended the station house officer (SHO) of DLF City (Phase-I) police station for allegedly implicating a taxi driver in a case of vehicle snatching.
The SHO also allegedly tortured him for a week during police remand. He was then sent in judicial custody for about a month.
The victim had alleged that during his jail term, his mother went into depression and died. The vehicle that he had allegedly stolen was also seized from three other criminals.
DCP (East) Jagdish Nagara, who admitted the goof-up, ordered a departmental inquiry against SHO Mohan Lal.
He said the SHO was also found guilty in a number of cases of indiscipline.
“After having initially ordered a department inquiry against the SHO, I recommended his name for suspension. I received a number of complaints against him. Recently, he had also gone on leave without informing the senior officers,” said the DCP.
DCP (head quarter) Kulvinder Singh said SHO Mohan Lal had been suspended for an indefinite period on Thursday.
Malvender Kumar (29), a taxi driver, and his family had approached the police high command and demanded stern action against the police officials for falsely implicating him in a case of car snatching.
Kumar had to spend about a month in jail and his 50-year-mother allegedly died after suffering from depression during his jail term.
Kumar, a resident of Gwalpahari village near DLF City, was arrested with a friend on July 4 and allegedly tortured till July 10. The two were then remanded in judicial custody.
Kumar’s mother died on August 1 and he got bail from the jail on August 8.
