The dense fog, which led to a vehicular pile-up on the Noida Expressway, claimed a real estate executive’s life in Gurgaon and killed three persons — including a three-year-old girl — in Delhi till Tuesday morning.
In Noida, commuters’ woes began when a truck collided with a car near Sector 138 on the Greater Noida-Noida side of the Expressway around 3am. Later, around 5am, a Tata Sumo, an Indica and some other cars rammed into these vehicles because of low visibility.
The pile-up forced the police to divert vehicular traffic to the adjacent service lane around 6am. They had to struggle till 9am to remove the damaged vehicles from the carriageway.
“No crane came to remove the vehicles for hours. Had the damaged truck and car been removed after the collision, the pile-up could have been prevented,” said Daljeet Singh, a resident of Greater Noida Sector Beta, whose car was among the damaged vehicles.
Meanwhile, Chinmay Sharma, 38, a real estate executive, was killed on the Gurgaon-Faridabad Road when his Hyundai Santro car rammed into a tractor trolley loaded with iron rods.
“Sharma was on his way to his office in Faridabad. The accident took place just outside the high-rise residential Vasant Valley apartments at 8:45am,” said a senior police officer.
The accident was attributed to dense fog. The tractor’s driver sped past and a criminal case has been filed against him at the DLF City phase 1 police station. Also, three accidents — two of them hit-and-run — were reported from Monday till Tuesday morning in Delhi.
“While an 18-year-old pedestrian was mowed down in the first accident in the Samaypur Badli area last night, a three-year-old child was run over by a dumper in the Shalimar Bagh area. An unidentified biker was mowed down by a dumper at 5:45am near the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital,” a Delhi Police officer said.
