The Delhi high court came down on the Aam Aadmi Party-led government in Delhi for locking up the office of a senior IAS officer at the Delhi Secretariat.
“We (people) wanted a better government… Look what is happening. Instead of working and answering questions, you locked up the office,” the bench of justice G Rohini and justice RS Endlaw remarked.
The bench was irked at the government’s absence at numerous case hearings. The bench’s remarks came at the absence of the government’s counsel in a case related to admission of Economically Weaker Section category students in minority schools. “No one appears for the Delhi government. Every time, we have to send an invitation,” it observed.
Although, the government’s standing counsel Raman Duggal was present in the court, when asked for his response, he wasn’t prepared to answer any queries related to the case, he said.
“There are more than 9,000 incomplete files. So, we are facing difficulty. When the court goes on vacation, we will look into all the files and be prepared for all the matters after the vacation,” Duggal informed the court.
It directed the counsel to be present in case hearing in future. “Be here in cases. In every cases we can’t go on calling you,” the bench remarked.
