In a relief to thousands of families waiting for residential plots in Rohini for the past 31 years, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) assured Delhi high court on Friday that it would complete the demarcation of 21,328 plots by October 30.
A bench of chief justice Dipak Misra and justice Sanjiv Khanna warned the DDA that if it did not keep its word, it would impose a stay on auctioning or diversion of any Rohini land for any other use till these residential plots were demarcated and allotted to the applicants as was done two years ago.
Acting on a petition filed by an applicant Rahul Gupta, the bench also sought a status report from the DDA vice-chairman by November 8. The court also asked DDA to take up the case of remaining 4,000 applicants immediately after it.
The bench has been questioning the DDA how it could undertake various other housing projects in Rohini by ignoring the legitimate claim of the applicants of Rohini residential scheme 1981. The applicants were for middle-income, low-income and Janta (poor) category plots of the 1981 scheme.
