The first day of a newly-wed couple’s honeymoon turned into a nightmare when the bride’s diamond ring worth around Rs 8 lakh was allegedly stolen from their room at The Leela Palace hotel in New Delhi on Sunday.
The couple said that when they first informed the hotel management about the incident, they assured them of compensating the loss, but two days later they acquired an indifferent attitude towards them.
The couple, who was supposed to leave for Dubai on Wednesday, lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police in this regard. A case of theft has been registered at the Sarojini Nagar police station.
When contacted, The Leela Palace management clarified, “The Leela is committed to the safety and security of the guests and their belongings. We are working with local authorities and looks forward to settling the matter soon.”
The couple — Manshi and her husband Ishan Garga — got married on Saturday and booked a room at The Leela Palace hotel to spend their first night.
“We checked in on Saturday and spent out night in room number 350. The next afternoon we left the hotel to meet our relatives at their residence in Kailash Hills in Delhi. Within five minutes of leaving the hotel, Manshi realised that she had forgotten her diamond ring in the hotel room. We immediately rushed to the hotel,” said Ishan, who works with a real estate company in Dubai.
After reaching the hotel, Ishan said, they found two cleaning staff inside the room. “When we asked about the ring, they showed ignorance. We brought the matter to the notice of the hotel management,” Ishan said.
An investigating officer said they were questioning the staff of the hotel for clues on the missing ring.
