The government has allotted a type VII bungalow in Lutyens zone, preferred by the ruling UPA ally Trinamool Congress for its party office, to a BJP MP.
The 14 Bishambar Das Marg bungalow, wanted by TC for its party office, has been allotted by Lok Sabha Housing Committee to BJP MP Ashok Argal.
"We are entitled to have a house in Lutyens zone for our party office on the basis of our party strength in Parliament. Since the Bishambar Das house was near to our party president and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence, we had opted for it for our party office," a close aide of Banerjee said.
However, Lok Sabha Housing Committee chairman J P Aggarwal said, "The bungalow in Bishambar Das Marg is in the Lok Sabha pool and it was allotted to a five-time BJP MP."
Asked if the decision could be changed now, Aggarwal said, "It is not possible because the allottee, who is a senior MP, is about to take possession of the house."
Terming it as "unfortunate", the aide said, "There is a need for a suitable house for our party office. "After the denial of this particular house, we have not sought any alternative arrangement yet," the Mamata aide said.
There are some newly elected MPs who have not been allotted accommodation yet though six months have passed since the formation of the government.
Aggarwal said, "Allotment process is almost complete. Since many former MPs and ministers have not vacated their houses, new members have not been able to take possession."
