Thousands of youths looking for dream jobs and promising careers thronged the Hindustan Times Job Fair organised at Pragati Maidan in the Capital. The two-day (August 25-26) fair saw over 20,000 youngsters battling the heat to utilise the on-the-spot placement opportunity.
The event, organised by Hindustan Times and sponsored by Convergys together with 24 Seven, brought together companies from different sectors like hospitality, finance and information technology under one roof. “For youngsters like us this is a great chance of having so many job hunters and potential employers under one roof. Especially for candidates with experience ranging from nil to five years this is very useful,” said Pratibha Khanna, an aspiring airhostess.
For the employers, too, the fair was a useful platform to get the right candidates, said Pranay Prakash, Assistant Manager, Reliance Retail Limited.
“We are recruiting candidates in a big way. At the fair, we just collected their profiles and, by next week, we will segregate them and put them in the divisions that will best use their skills,” he said.
In two days, thousands of youths had a chance to get on-the-spot placement from more than 15 leading companies, including Radisson MBD, Indigo Airlines and Genpact. The turnout of potential job seekers forced the employers to bring in additional staff for the second day, said Ashish Garg, Senior Manager, Human Resources, Convergys.
“Yesterday we just had three recruiters interviewing the candidates but after seeing the turnout we decided to bring in more people today. Convergys is a brand and with such a huge variety to choose from, we can get the best employees,” said Garg.
Not just freshers, professionals dissatisfied with their existing jobs also visited the fair.
“I came here mainly because there are so many IT companies here and I am looking for career options at this point of time. I read about it in yesterday’s paper and decided to try my luck here,” said Krishna Das, a software engineer.
