With the battered baby case turning murkier, investigators are now trying to tie loose ends, which they believe will help them unearth the human trafficking and interstate prostitution racket.
While teams of the south district police have been asked to trace the missing persons involved in the human trafficking racket, the southeast district police are looking for aides of the four arrested members of the prostitution racket.
Efforts are also being made to locate two children — a 5-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter — of Munni, the biological mother of the 2-year-old battered baby. Munni had been forced to marry a 25-year-old man by Laxmi and Kanta Choudhary, the two arrested members of the racket and Saroj, who is from Haryana and currently evading the law.
The police are also looking for Shankar, a native of Bihar’s Muzaffarpur, who is also said to be the part of the racket.
“Shankar was the one who had convinced Munni, who hails from his hometown, to come to Delhi to earn a livelihood for her three children, after her first husband Mohammad Shah Hussain abandoned them. During Laxmi and Kanta’s interrogation, it has been learnt that Munni’s elder daughter is in Muzaffarpur while her son is with one Guddu for safekeeping,” said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south).
