IAS aspirant dies, trainee police officer hurt in accident

A 26-year-old civil services aspirant was killed and his friend, a trainee IPS officer, injured after the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a speeding truck in north Delhi’s Kashmere Gate late on Saturday night.
The accident took place around 11 pm near Nepali Park when the victims were heading towards Gazetted Officer’s (GO’s) mess at Kotwali on an official Delhi Police Pulsar motorbike.
Police said the speeding truck hit the motorcycle from behind and then crushed the civil services aspirant under its wheels. The errant truck driver fled along with his vehicle after the accident.
The deceased was identified as Karamveer who hailed from Churu district in Rajasthan. The trainee IPS officer who sustained injuries in the accident was identified as Devesh Kumar Mahla and he hails from Rajasthan’s Jaipur.
Mahla, a police officer said, is assistant commissioner of police (ACP) who is under training at Seelampur police station in northeast district.
A case of rash and negligent driving causing hurt was registered on the basis of the complaint filed by Mahla at the Kashmere Gate police station against the unidentified truck driver.
Mahla in his complaint told police that they were going to GO’s mess at Kotwali as Karamveer wanted some study materials from his laptop.
“I was riding the motorcycle and my friend was the pillion rider. On the way, a speeding truck hit our motorcycle while trying to overtake us. Due to the impact of the hit Karamveer fell off the motorcycle on his left and got crushed under the wheels of the truck,” said Mahla in his complaint.A police vehicle reached the spot and rushed the victims to Sushruta Trauma Center where Karamveer was pronounced dead on arrival.
