Power is the way to power, believes the Delhi government.
How else can one explain a rise of 350% in budgetary allocation to the power sector?
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit has proposed an outlay of R1,576 crore on the power sector, which is up from last year's R461 crore.
The government has earmarked R1 crore for shifting high tension and low tension lines across the Capital.
For acquisition of land, R5 crore has been allocated while R1,550 crore has been given to the government-owned power transmission utility, Delhi Transco Limited.
Going into the details of the power sector projects in the city, Dikshit said that her government had commissioned two gas turbines of 250
MW each in Bawana Gas plant in October 2010 and February 2011.
In her Tuesday's budget, the chief minister added that the remaining two gas turbines and two steam turbine units of about 1000 MW would be commissioned during 2011-12 and that Delhi will be able to generate 70% of its power from this project.
