A day ahead of the full dress rehearsal of the Republic Day parade that will take place on Wednesday, the traffic police have asked commuters to avoid New and Central Delhi roads. The restrictions will be in place till Wednesday afternoon.
Motorists will not be allowed on important arterial roads falling between Vijay Chowk and Red Fort.
The rehearsal will start at 9.50 am from Vijay Chowk and pass through Rajpath, India Gate, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg and proceed to the Red Fort Ground.
“Traffic movement will not be allowed between Vijay Chowk and India Gate on Rajpath from 5am to 12.30pm and traffic on Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Subhash Marg will not be allowed on both directions till the completion of the rehearsal,” said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).
Meanwhile, the railways has decided to suspend rail traffic on Tilak Bridge for 90 minutes — from 10.30 am to noon — on Wednesday and on January 26.
