A Delhi-based exporter and his friend landed in trouble after he claimed he was carrying ‘bomb’ in the same flight in which SPG-protected Priyanka Gandhi was also travelling. The incident took place at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Monday morning when the security check for Jet Airways flight to Chennai was going on.
According to airport sources, ladder point checking of Jet Airways flight was on when the passenger got irritated and shouted at security personnel that he was carrying bomb. Amid the heightened security alert, security agencies have added another layer of security at the ladder point of the plane.
Passengers are first checked at the entry gate. But these are random checks. There is a mandatory check at security point by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Currently, passengers have to go through Secondary Ladder Point Checking (SLPC) too just before boarding the plane.
SLPC is conducted when the threat is at its highest level and passengers have to go through with complete frisking just before entering the aircraft. “This happened during the ladder point checking. There was long queue and this passenger got irritated as few restricted items (tobacco pouch) were found from him and he was asked to throw it. Moments later he shouted ‘bomb hai mere paas’ (I am carrying a bomb),” said a CISF official requesting anonymity.
Since personnel of Special Protection Group (SPG) were also there, this statement of passenger was treated as ‘possible threat’ and he along with his co-passenger were taken back to terminal. The aircraft, which was about to take off was again checked for explosives and departed 90 minutes late. However, according to sources, Priyanka Gandhi was shifted to another plane.
“Proper drill was followed to check the plane. These two passengers were later interrogated by the joint team of Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Delhi Police and later let off,” said a senior Delhi Police official.
These two passengers were off loaded and were not allowed to board the plane.
